1. How do I sign up for a class?

Once you have selected the class you want, fill out the application and provide a 50% deposit.

2. What happens if I need to change my reservation?

See our Cancellation Policy.

3. How much ammo will I actually shoot?

That will depend on which class you are taking so see course descriptions. Always keep in mind that you may shoot more or less based on your gun, magazine capacity and experience.

4. What do I do for meals?

We suggest you bring meals or plan to travel a short distance. There is a dining facility at South River but we can't promise a non-lethal experience. Seriously, the food isn't bad but you need to have alternate choices because the menu is limited. You should also bring snacks and beverages.

5. What type of clothing should I wear?

Atlanta has rapidly changing weather so we suggest bringing a variety of clothing and raingear because classes continue except for in dangerous weather conditions.

6. Can my family or friends come and watch?

Only students are allowed.

7. How do I get to classes held at South River Gun Club?

See the info page here.

8. Where can I stay for classes held at South River Gun Club?

See the info page here.

9. What should I bring to class?

See the equipment checklist here.

10. I've got some experience shooting so do I really need Basic Pistol?

Here are a few questions that can help you determine whether you will benefit from the class:

  1. Can you explain why you should wear eye protection while cleaning your firearm? Many solvents are caustic and even a minuscule droplet can cause an irregular burn on the eye that is not repairable.
  2. Do you know why wearing disposable gloves and/or properly cleaning up after handling shooting equipment is important? Lead contamination is a genuine issue and unless you enjoy chelation therapy to remove heavy metals from your system, you might want to know this information.
  3. Do you know the difference between a clip and a magazine? If you do not know proper terminology, how do you expect to have an intelligent conversation regarding the subject?
  4. Do you know how to select a firearm that fits you properly? If not, how do you expect to perform properly if using equipment that is less than optimal for you?
  5. From being aimed in at a 5" target that is five yards away, can you place five hits on that target is less than five seconds? If you can't do that on demand, you do not possess the skill set for anything more demanding than a course that concentrates on fundamental skills.
